Life Journey Map - J
Around the 70’s there were points that impacted J's life. In 1969 J got married.
He was in the military in Viet Nam and was sent to Europe. God gave J a love for the world. He traveled extensively.
He got an MBA after Military. Learned much about self.
Loves to lead. Learned entrepreneurship. He had a heart for impossible things. Worked for Xerox when they began to lose their identity as a corporation. 1974 became a believer in Tuscon, AZ. Grown up in church but discarded it. Burned by legalism.
Went to church with his wife. She said if you will go to church with me for just a couple of months then I’ll never ask you to go again. So he went and the pastor preached out of the living bible to young professionals like J. In 1982 he left Xerox. Started company called Help America. His wife asked, “What good is this money we are making if you’re not around me to enjoy it.” It was a dark time.
J then discovered a willingness to risk and do unprecedented things. In 1984 J resigned from Health America. Worked for CCC and Family life for 14 years. They started traveling but didn’t want to live outside of America,.
In 1998 they were speaking in Asia on the family. At lunch a guy invited them to join his wife and he to join them in a large East Asian City. Later that year they moved to a large East Asian Country as part of a company that was over there already. Dir. Of Operations and acting President of this company.
One day they drove to the office. A woman was pouring water over her head in a ditch. She was moving from the country to the city and had no heat or water and J was moved to help the city. God has put thoughts in J's mind all his life like, Who can I talk to?” CCC knew nothing about reaching cities so J was inspired by the challenge.
A son in law told J about City Reach and J forgot about it. Then in a bookstore he saw the book City Reaching by Jack Denison. IN this Asian country J contacted Jack while he was there. Jack wouldn’t even answer his phone calls. J wrote him and asked if they could translate Jack's book into Asian. Jack came to Asia and they met. They met with Eric Swanson as well and began to ask who is reaching cities. Ray Bakke also had a role. Random events brought J to a large East Asian country.
There are 200 cities of over a million people. Part of the appeal is that no one has ever done it. Jack said he won’t do it either. But God can do it. In a big Asian city the greatest revival was going on in the countryside in 1998. But God called J to the city. Every year 30 million people move to the city in this Asian Country. By 2012 the majority of people in this Asian country's cities will be poor and migrant.
