Compassion in Action Weekend

Got this note from Chip Sweney, pastor at Perimeter Church in Atlanta who also leads Unite--the city-reaching movement in NE Atlanta. Very cool to see the impact of churches working together. Way to go Chip!

Compassion in Action Highlights

PARTICIPATION SUMMARY
We estimate that there were approximately 4,500 volunteers, from 40+ churches, served in over 200 service projects. There were a higher percentage of Unite! churches participating, than ever before. 40 out of 100 churches participating is nearly 3 times the amount of participation from previous years.

OUTPOURING OF VOLUNTEERS AT 30 LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS
With an emphasis on Public Schools, there were projects in about 30 public schools , from a Baseball Clinic at Mason Elementary to spreading 1,000 bales of pine straw at Norcross High School, to organizing the new principals filing cabinets at Stripling Elementary!

Quote from Norcross High School Principal, Jonathan Patterson…
“Please convey my gratitude to the many volunteers who participated in the Compassion in Action weekend at Norcross High School. In a matter of hours, they painted bathroom walls, spread 1000 bales of pine straw, and trimmed, weeded and cleaned up the school grounds. The work that they did has been noticed by faculty members and students, as well as community members. We appreciate all of their hard work and thank you for including Norcross High School in this service project.”

2,000 BAGS OF GROCERIES COLLECTED
We estimate that approximately 2,000 bags of food were collected through 20 Neighborhood Food Drives and 5 Grocery Store Food Drives. Food was distributed to the Co-Op's in Duluth, Norcross, North Fulton, North Gwinnett, and Forsyth.

$18,000 PLAYGROUND FINANCED & BUILT AT HUNTINGTON RIDGE APARTMENTS
Prior to CIA Weekend, volunteers had raised the necessary funds to build a new playground at Huntington Ridge apartments, and volunteers finished the job, during CIA Weekend, by constructing an incredible $18,000 playground facility. Not to mention, volunteers also renovated a dingy activities room into a multi-purpose tutoring and ESL language lab.

NEARLY 200 VOLUNTEERS RENOVATE HOME FOR WELLSPRING LIVING
Wellspring Living (a 12 month residential program for women needing a new start in life) plans to open a home in Duluth that will house 12 women and 4 staff. Multiple churches did an amazing work of transformation this weekend to help get the home ready to open at the end of the month.
