Sideways diagram: recognition that God is at work in bringing about his kingdom purposes in the world. City reachers are the tip of the arrow that is involved in City reaching. What is it that we would like to see God do? Healthy families; impact in society; govt; economy. Blue arrows were recognizing that it is God that is producing the change with transformational grace.
Eric: We need to be carefully that we don’t create and us them relationship. The important thing about drawing diagrams is that it forces you to think about relationships between things.
When we are telling believers about the world God values, it is inherently attractive. Life begs for interpretation, so people are open to God’s interpretation.
Dan: How do we make sure that those who don’t know the king, but are helping build the kingdom don’t become inoculated by to the gospel?
Rich: the answer is Trinitarian. We ministry out of overflow. The need is not a calling for us, it is an opportunity. Those who see the need as a calling are overwhelmed. They get eaten alive by the need. And they have no language for evil or spiritual warfare. They get attacked by demons because the devil hates the poor and children. They are open to the language of the trinity and the work of Christ. Tom Koby, the former chief of police in
Dan: We better be careful about going out to do good deeds if we don’t bring with us the supernatural.
Henry: Just because we are participating in the same activity as unbelievers, does not mean we have the same source.
Jerry: The ultimate goal is to share Christ with people.
Eric: The tension in that is the Good Samaritan. I could be called to do works of mercy and justice as an end in itself. I don’t believe the Samaritan could have shared the Gospel with that man.
Chris: The ultimate goal is for people to know Jesus.
Henry: Our ultimate objective is to help people to walk with God in his kingdom.
Augustin: We are to show the love of God and that includes everything. It includes physical service and spiritual service.
Jerry: if we limit the gospel to only sin issues, and not a change of life, then it is wanting.
Dan: Salvation is repentance, following after Jesus.
Sam: God is not willing that any should perish but that all would receive eternal life. We do good for the poor because it is right. But if it’s not our hearts desire to know the king, then there’s something wrong.
Eric: If a helps organization separates from a church, it will take three generations to become totally secular.

Eric: Is. 61: proclaim the gospel, freedom for the captives, bind up wounds etc. The first verse is explanatory of the rest. You can’t preach the good news without good works. I think God puts people in our paths to expand our hearts, arms and geography. Good deeds can be as confusing as they are clarifying. In Acts 2 there is a holy moment, but many people interpreted it wrongly. 99% of the time, people will ask why are you serving. We must balance works and preaching. Now as we talk to people about these things, many agree and want to be involved.
Chip: How do we balance working along side non-believers?
Sam: Rich does this better than anyone I’ve ever seen. He’s intentionally relational. He’s unapologetically spiritual.
Rich: leaders are killed at 3.5 years. You can help them understand what is happening to them and give them a theological understanding of the horror that they face.
Layo: We are facing the question of what we will be about. We have adopted a little community of 500. The number one need that they have expressed to us is a roof for the local Catholic Church. In
Sam: When people persecute you and crucify you and you come back to them, they don’t know what to do with you. Most leaders leave to soon.
