Chocolat

We watched Chocolat.

What characterized the look and feel of the town at the beginning of the film?
No flowers, bleak; gray; quiet; tranquilite; unnatural.

What characterized the lives of the people in the town?
Shame, secrecy, bitterness, "people will talk".

What characterized the church?
Location in the center. "Come to Us". Outward transformation through discipline, inward ignorance of reality. Authority/Arrogance

What characterized Vianne?
Location on the fringe amongst the people. Natural interaction with the community. She reached out. Her ways embraced nature.

What is the central conflict of this film?
Christendom-Attractional vs Missional-Incarnational?
Christianity vs. Paganism?
The order of human response to sin vs the freedom of the Gospel?

Command and Control - Grace/Truth - Total Excess
Renaud - Vianne - Gypsies
